MOTION SICKNESS IN DOGS AND CATS

MOTION SICKNESS IN DOGS AND CATS

About one in six animals suffers from cinetosis when traveling by car or by plane. Common symptomatology is agitation, anxiety and high salivation until to nausea and gastrointestinal problems in most sensitive subjects. The precise mechanisms behind travel sickness are not entirely clear, but it is possible both vestibular and balance issues or anxiety related behavioral problems from past negative experiences.

The treatment of motion sickness in cats and especially in dogs can include a series of strategies to make the car journey more comfortable and a setting time to endure more and more long journeys.

However, if the problem persists, it is possible to use sedative drugs or supplementary foods formulated with specific botanical extracts traditionally well known for their beneficial actions on kinetics and anxious conditions.

In particular, dried extracts of Valeriana officinalis and Passiflora Incarnata, if taken half an hour before departure, thanks to their synergistic sedative action can be helpful in reducing reactive anxiety states and inducing a physiological relaxation of the animal during the journey.

Dry extract of Ginger ,titrated in gingeroles, has been shown to be able to significantly prevent and significantly reduce the onset of kinetics and emesis in animals during the journey.
